Stainless steel sink waste being cleared during a drain cleaning visit

Drain cleaning that actually lasts

A plunger and a bottle of caustic will buy you a fortnight. We clear the blockage properly, then put a camera down to show you why it happened.

What a drain cleaning call-out includes

We arrive with the full kit on the van — rods, an electro-mechanical machine and a high-pressure jetter — so we're not diagnosing the problem on one visit and coming back with equipment on another.

  • Clearing the blockage using the least aggressive method that will actually shift it
  • A CCTV camera run afterwards, so you can see the pipe is clear and what caused it
  • Flushing the run through and checking every fixture on the same branch
  • A straight answer on whether it will come back, and what to do if it will

Signs your drain needs attention

  • Water standing in the sink, bath or shower long after you have finished
  • A gurgle from one fixture when you drain another — usually a vent or a partial blockage further down
  • A smell from the plughole or from the gully outside
  • The toilet rising before it falls, or needing two flushes
  • Damp or staining at the base of an external wall near a gully

The usual culprits in Dublin homes

Kitchen drains are nearly always fat and grease that has cooled and set on the pipe wall, narrowing it a bit more each month. Bathrooms are hair and soap. Outside drains are wipes, roots from a nearby tree, or a section of clay pipe that has dropped at a joint. Period properties in Rathmines, Ranelagh and the north inner city often still have shared or original clay runs, which is worth knowing before anyone starts quoting for excavation.

Common questions

Questions we get asked a lot

Will you make a mess?

Sheets down, boots off or covered, and we clean the area before we leave. Drain work is dirty by nature — your house should not be when we go.

Can you clear it the same day?

Usually yes. We keep same-day slots free every weekday for blockages, and we run a 24/7 emergency line for anything that is flooding.

Do I need a CCTV survey?

Not for a one-off kitchen blockage. If a drain has blocked twice in a year, or you are buying the house, a survey is worth the money — it tells you whether you are dealing with a habit or a broken pipe.

Are chemical drain cleaners a bad idea?

For a slow sink, occasionally. For a full blockage they mostly sit in the standing water and do nothing but make the job more unpleasant for whoever opens the trap. Tell us if you have used one.
